Do I need to change anything?
Are the plants ok by the heater?
Ignore the diagonal filter input, I think we need to trim it with a hack saw? (read that somewhere on google) as it's too long for the tank. Is it ok diagonal for now?
There will be a background and more plants added next week.
Good or bad, any comments welcome. :)

Maybe this should be in the tank pictures section, but i'm new and wanting advice, so wasn't sure. :)

Looks nice, my only points would be:

- Check the end of the pipe that the filter inlet (black) cage pushes onto. Be sure that the cage will push onto bare pipe before you take a hacksaw to it as I think the end of the pipe has some ribs on it?

- I would swap the filter inlet and outlet over, for a couple of reasons.

1) I know it will circulate, but at the moment in my mind the freshly filtered water will enter your tank top left, and the natural flow will be for it to then be sucked back into the filter at the bottom right, without curculating round the tank. I might be talking out of my (elbow) here, but I generally try to have the filter inlet before the flow from the outlet if that makes sense.
So I would have the inlet and the outlet on the left, with the inlet (to the filter) in the left corner, and the outlet (from the filter) to the right of that on the back wall 'squirting' the water along the back of the tank from left to right (so in the same direction as you have now).

2) Also you do not want your filter inlet to be too near those airbubbles otherwise they will end up in the cannister and give you a noisey filter. The filter usually quietens down once the air clears, but if you are constantly feeding it with a fresh stream of bubbles....

Other than that very nice, I love the black sand, very tempted to do something similar myself at some point :)

looking good

some good advice there by schmill

more plants and background will defo help

how are u cycling it?

and what fish u intend keeping?

Thank you both, will change the filter over as soon as. I hope we can find a smaller walking stick as I really don't want to try and cut it and break it!
Also noted about the circulation, makes perfect sense. :good:
In the bottom isn't actually a sand, it's really tiny perfectly round pebbles. Cost a fortune and they only had 3 black bags (we needed 4) so we took a dark grey and they mixed really well, i'm quite glad we did now, it breaks it up a bit.

I'm doing a fish in cycle  BUT I have a friend who (fingers crossed) should be donating me some media next week. I have used nutrafin cycle also for now.

Stocking we are looking to get - Sunset platties and pearl danios then wait a good few weeks. Then hope to add some neons and rummie noses. Then some peppered corys, a bristlenose and a couple of small plecs. With hope to eventually get some little cherry shrimp too.

EDIT: Schmill - I know you mean swap the pipes over as in position, did you also mean the lengths too? Is the outlet (from filter) ok lower down in the tank, or should I buy a new inlet walking stick that's just a bit shorter than mine, leaving the outlet nearer the top?
Thanks.
