Tanins

im interested to know if they are any benefits of tanins

My LFS says that their fish, especially more sensitive species that prefer soft acid water (blackwater ie amazonians, discus) seem to be healthier if the water contains tannins. I have found the same thing with my brackish tanks. However this is purely anecdotal evidence - it will be interesting to see if anybody has done a proper study on this.
