which corals would survive under a single t8 tube?

also which t8 bulb would be best? white or 50/50?

tank size???
2ft x 1ft x 15inches

wattage?
dont know i havent bought yet what do you recomend

colour temp?
dont understand what you mean by colour temp.?

age of tube?
will be brand new

first offf, i wouldnt use T8's i would use a single 24 watt T5 if you just want to keep softies. or twin 24 watts if you wish to keep LPS too.

colour temp is the K rating, your looking at 10-15k for a white colour

the thing is my light is built into my hood and do not want to change the hood?

would a triple t5 unit be enough for corals through a condensation tray?

Dan

apologies if you have already said this, but what make tank have you got? Some tanks, take juwel for example can just have their hoods replaced by a T5 light bar

A small modification to your hood may open up more options for you.
Here is an old thread of mine that I have resurrected from 2005 and may be of some help.
Granted it's centred around the Juwel brand of aquariums but it can be adapted to anything really.
Its from my freshwater planted aquaria I use the exact same tubes in my Nano Reef albeit slightly larger. and I can grow certain SPS.

Sorry Seff
Dont know what happened there it was working fine
Please try it again and let me know if is performing as it should

Please also note I swapped this type of tube to a power compact T5 different ballast and end-caps (which I have no pics of) This is what I now use.
The principle is the same though. Canopy Modification to incorporate more illumination.

That should get you there....Sorry for the malfunction

i have a triple t5 unit but just wondered if i fitted a proper plastic condensation tray whether it is still powerful enough to keep corals but also keep my room from being ruined with condensation like before?

You could keep a good number of different corals under triple T5's. I wouldn't use the condensation tray though, that'll hamper your gas exchange and possibly lead to heat problems in the summer. Not too sure about your room's ventilation characteristics as far as condensation goes. But if you have the fixture, it would be worth a try...

Under triple T5's you could keep any softy you wanted, most LPS, and maybe a few basic SPS like pocillipora or millepora up at the very top of the rock stack. I'd stay away from nems and clams though, except maybe a larger Derasa clam

it would definitely have to ave the condensation tray because last time everywhere in my room was wet and mold round windows of it so would i still be ok?

Just to come in on the condensation tray bit.
I have sliding coverglasses on my nano and have no problems with growing corals under T5's as long as you keep the glass clean on a weekly basis then there is absolutly no problem with using them IMHO.

so what corals do you keep and what maintenance/ feeding do they require?

do you have a pic of your tank?

Corals too numerous to mention them all probably over 30 species, Softies, LPS and SPS
