Syphoning - I Think I Am Doing It Wrong!

First....I have 2 tanks. A 20 gallon Molly tank and a 10 gallon Guppy tank. My Molly tank...no issues! But I know they lean up a bit better than Guppies. tMy Guppy tank...it seems I can never siphon it out clean enough! I have your run of the mill gravity action siphonthat you pump to get the suction going. I've tried swishing it just aabove the gravel and can clean what is on top but when I move the gravel with it I just succeed in sucking up a tubeful of it that then in turn falls out all over the placeand just knocks the gunk around. Am I doing something off kilter here?ve
