Well, it's become clear what's going on with my boy...He's got a swollen gill on one side, his colors have faded and he's hungry but having problems eating...getting the food in his mouth. I put him on Maracyn and Maracyn 2 yesterday but he doesn't seem one bit better today and in fact seems worse! His belly seems a bit swollen too-not out ot he side but the underneath part....make sense? He's in a heavily planted tank with a little bitty pleco. The parameters are good and the heater is on to 79. Any ideas for me? I put in some IAL for him yesterday too. I'll be moving him to a hospital tank in a bit here when I can get it configured. He loves his own tank so much I didn't want to make him move. I did an epsom salt treatment for him 2 weeks ago and gave him several batches of peas as I was worried about his belly. Then I got thinking he was eating snails possibly but now I wonder.... He took a liking to pleco's algae tablets too so I had to stop using them. Could the plec have latched onto him? Any thoughts would be MOST welcome.

He finally straightened out his fins for me and they are ripped up on the bottom fin like he's been nipped. No WONDER he doesn't feel good-moving to hospital tank ASAP & treating with antibiotics I got from bettatalk lady. Wish me luck!!

OMG he just straigtened out his fins and ......ripped. I wonder if plec took out after him? They're ripped on the bottom. I had to run over to the new place & take the goldfish to their tank which has been cycling there & sterilize the tank they were in --get my boy outta there!!

Not quite sure whats going on here, but I keep bettas and plecs together all the time and have had no problems whatsoever with them. Even from as young as 4 weeks old.

Hope you can get him healthy again :D

One problem may be that the betta went near the plec's territory and the plec got aggressive but the betta wasnt giving up so he flared for his life, this may of caused him to blow his fins
