Hi guys.

I am looking to upgrade my lighting on my 125l tank to t5's but my tank is unusual length 80cm, and most luminaries come in 60/90/100 cm.

I was previously looking to purchase a 90cm luminaire which had adjustable legs to fit smaller tanks, but when I posted this on the hardware forum I was told the lighting wad too high. The fitting is a 2x 39w from all pond solutions... So now am I'm a bit of a muddle.

Firstly... Is this too much light to have? This to me was the easiest solution...

Second... How can I suspend a smaller fitting over the tank without suspending it from the ceiling... A 60cm luminaire total watts 54w.

It is quite high light. 2 39w t5s over 125 litre might cause some problems to be honest. I would stick to t8s or reduce the wattage of the t5s.

Do you run co2 and dose?

You can build something to hold the light, think of hangman. Or from the ceiling, cheap and cheerful a bicycle hoist

Thanks guys. But not much of a DIY bod! Does any1 have any pics/ example of how it could be done?

You could take it to a steel fabricators and ask them to knock something up for you.

Someone is going to float in the lake..

Shelf holders.. That's what u need to hang the lights.

Well if you are considering putting shelf holders or brackets up then...may as well have a shelf there. Can't see the logic of just shelf holders.

And following on if you're going to have a shelf there then you may as well have a 'floating shelf because shelf brackets are pretty ugly ;)

And voila you have a shelf with no visible supports and somewhere to hang your luminaire from:

Plus there are the other advantages (as you can see in first pic) Makes water changes easier. Gives you something to put the speakers on (if it is a strong enough shelf/wall fixing)

Another option is using tubing fixed to the cabinet and suspend from there like Jason Baliban (and a few others) have done. Here's a link to Jason's:

Thanks supercoley1! Wow whAt a legendary tank... Jasons simple solution seems like a winner! Right off to home base to find some piping and a "bending device"!
