I've nevervhad a suicidal fish...
My LFS owner had one though... it cost him $500+.
(It was his platinum silver arowana.
)His fish just jumped right out of the big tank he was in at my LFS.

DIY is good, too!
Having a spare sponge filter, air tubing, air stone, heater, tub/bucket, etc. is always a smart idea .
Oh, and some used filter media tucked here and there. A couple of my tanks have room for extra cartridges/media so I have some to start a new or emergency tank
