Hi guys,

Just bought my mates old marine tank and I'm going to upgrade my current planted fresh water tank.

One thing I have never dealt with is sumps does any one have any input on what media to use, I do have a rough idea however this is based of what I have dealt with before.

Thanks

I’d just use normal filter media sponges and ceramic rings unless your looking to alter the water chemistry then possibly add crushed coral to harden or something like almond leaves to soften

I've just moved out so not sure what the current chemistry is like going to have a look, would you recommend activated carbon?

You don't need carbon in filters unless you have heavy metals or toxic chemicals in the water. If you do have these, you should filter the water before using it in the tank.

Carbon will remove medications and plant fertiliser.

Sponges, course media, ceramic Bio-balls, floss, etc.
