right as many of you know the MRs and i haver recently started getting our tank set up with a sump/fuge.
while the fuge is runing nicely i want to know about the sump. my plan to get the water from the tank to the sump is for a simple siphon action through some rigid pipe
But how big does the pipe need to be?
Our return pump is rated at 1590 L/h

Pump rating in LPH/GPH at 0 head means little ;). What is the model pump?

its actualy a cheap fountain pump we found in the garden centre.. i`ll get you the make and model tomorrow..

Cool, if its listed on the box or something, what is the maximum feet of head it can push up?

You people and your meters and litres :p. So thats like 8.202099738 feet and 420gph max. The curves are relatively linear, enough for our purposes. So lets say the difference between the water level in the sump and in the stand is 3 feet, and you're gonna have a bunch of fittings, pipe, etc, so you're prolly at an effective 4.5feet of head pressure on the system. Prolly like 200GPH when all is said and done, perhaps less. You could do that with a 1/2" overflow but I'd feel safer with a 3/4" just in case the calculations are off. How are you planning on overflowing into the sump?

I`m thinking of maybe drilling the tank....

But how do you do that with a tank full of coral and critters???
might just have to have ALOT of spare water containers heaters and ro ect...

If you can lower the water level and drill from the back side I'm told it can be done with little problems.
