I have a space in my substrate that is in the shade of a couple of swords which I'm looking to fill.

I'd like some suggestions of a plant no more than 4-6" that would like those conditions, pref not a crypt as I have a couple of those. Tank has quite a high flow, Easycarbo & TPN+ daily.

How about some Anubias as its in the shade?

Do I recall correctly that Anubias grow from a rhizome, and the rhizome should not be completely underneath the substrate?

Correct. They're usually attached to wood or rocks.Mine never seem to do as well on rocks.
you can let them lie ontop of the substrate as long as the rhizome isn't buried.
I've got a couple of smaller types attached to a small long piece of beech, that way the leaves obscure the wood from view

Probably best on smoother rocks, something like sag would work too

Cheers Stu - that looks quite a nice little plant, think I might go for that. Thanks for the suggestion, Kane.

there's usually some knocking about on ebay, but i've never actually bought any.It seems to be another plant that's typically grown emmersed, so it will shed leaves before regrowing.

Mine never really shedded, but it does grow close to the sand in low light, not quite as tall as they suggest

Edit: actually, i just must have missed it shedding, dont know how I managed that lol
