I have a 29 gallon freshwater aquarium. The ammonia has been reading high. Last night the canister filter decided to leak. We turn it off and fixed it. Since the filter has been off the ammonia in the tank is perfect. How is that possible? The water in the filter reads a little high for ammonia. Very strange. Has anyone delt with this?

Only thing I can think of is that something got caught in the filter and died.

It might have been time to clean that filter a bit.

Nitrites and nitrates are perfect. Ph is a little low. Going to get stuff for that in a bit.

The filter was off all day yesterday and ammonia reading was perfect. Turned it back on today there's an ammonia spike. Would anybody be able to help me figure this out please. I really don't get it. Thank you in advance. Also the pre filter was rinsed yesterday.
