Hello all,

I'm currently in the process of cycling my tank, but I want to start getting together a collection of plants for the day when my tank is cycled (which will hopefully be soon!)

My question is, how do I go about storing them? Would they be okay in a bucket or would this be bad for them? What about adding some kind of fertiliser product to keep them going?

I've read about creating CO2 gas with sugar and yeast in a bottle - would this be a good idea while they're in the bucket?

If none of these options, then what would be the best way to store them? I want to get a collection together, but at the same time I don't want to buy them all now only to find they're half dead by the time comes to put them in the tank.

Order online. If you time it right, delivery will be anything upto a week.

Depends which plants you order.I've kept stuff in a bucket with just water for several days.Never tried for longer than a week.

Yeah I have had plants in a bucket for 3 days and have been fine. You may be able to go for longer by adding an air pump and stone or some form of filter to provide water movement.

If your going to store them in a bucket it might also be an idea to provide a heater as most tropical plants dont do too well in cold water.
Personally if it was me i wouldnt bother. I would just simply wait til your tank is cycled then buy and plant your plants.
Also if your thinking about co2 then you will definately need to dose ferts. Macros and micros. Either TPN+ daily or EI dosing.
If your planning on going heavily planted and using co2, it might be worth giving this a read
