So I'm 2 months into my first tank, and I'm confused as to how many more fish my tank can take and interested in people's favourites that would fit in. Its 180 litres (40 gallons), it has 3 live plants (sorry don't remember their names) and some driftwood with a few good hiding places. The fish I currently have in there are;

1x Male Blue Dwarf Gourami
1x Male Red Robin Gourami (That was the fish shop's name for it, after researching I think its a red colour morph of a honey)
2x Red Platys (1 male, 1 female)
10x Neon Tetras
6x Rummynose Tetras
3x Julii Cory

So I wanted to know how many more fish the tank can take roughly, and what are your favourites that would be happy with the rest. We'd like some guppies at some point but the shop told us to wait until the tank is 6 months old, is that right? We also had our eye on some shrimp as I feel like we could do with some more bottom feeders to get a better balance.

Thanks for your help!

I would not go with much more. Best to leave room for growth

Okay cool, thank you! So I'll just get a couple more corys and see how it goes.

I just keep reading that they like to be in bigger groups. So... maybe 6 Cory?

Yeah I actually read that somewhere else as well, but when I asked the guy in the shop he said they were fine with just 2 or 3. I guess you shouldn't just believe what they say without checking first! I'll definitely look for them next time I go.

you'll get more schooling action if you up the cories to 6
for your platy its best to have 3 females per one male, or just have all males and then it doesn't matter... with what you have now the female will most likely get stressed out and die b/c of the male will harass her all the time.
you're probably going to get some aggression between the gourami, so watch for that. if it happens then rehome the one you don't like best.]b/c you are interested in getting some shrimp, with what you have in the tank they'll most likely get eaten and need a lot of coverage to feel comfortable. the neons and the cories are the only ones that don't pose a threat. you can get rock shrimp and or vampire shrimp (vampire shrimp you can keep roughly 4 in the tank to give you the shrimp experience)

i would recommend you just up-ing the number of plants in the tank; going all out in the plant department, and just up the cories and wait a bit before you get anything else.

Come to think of it the female platy has been acting a little strange and that's probably why. I thought the two gouramis would be okay because one is a honey and one is a dwarf, I will definitely keep an eye out though. Thanks for your advice!
