how many otocinclus would you keep in a 64L tank, i will be supplementing their diet with vegetables as i wanted to keep more than 1 :)

  • Is this an existing tank or new set up?
  • Will it be planted?
  • What else did you plan on keeping? (to be on honest, probably the least important question, but i'm nosy)

I'm planning on them as well, in a 65 l, fully cycled, heavily planted, with some rummy nose tetras!

I'd also plan on supplimenting them, would this be ok?

Sorry to butt in on the topic

yeah its an existing tank, been up and running nearly a year now :) and yes its going to be heavily planted, and i was thinking of keeping them with a group of some kind of tetra, funny enough as axy was saying i was also considering rummy nose tetra ;) haha! :good:

and yes axy it'd be fine to suppliment them :)

I would probably keep two in a 16 gallon tank..

They are small, but swim pretty fast and in a 64 litre I'd go for 2 max to be sure you have constant supply of algae.
When you are picking them, make sure they are nice brown colour on their backs and not black and white.
I picked 3 a few weeks ago and the two with the black and white look died, the third one was perfectly fine. I went back to the shop and asked whether the brown and black/white ones were different species(yes, the colouring was like the more expensive zebra ottos, but of course not that pattern) and apparently the black and white ones were the non-settled new stock they just had put in. I picked another 2 that had brown backs instead and the difference in activity and behavour is great. They are doing perfect, trailing poos longer than their bodies but still not eating veg.

oo more poop than plecs? my bristlenoses take some beating!!

Yeah, they poop a lot for a small fish. It's either you clean algae or clean fish poop, whatever suits you
