I like to think i am close to the end of my cycle and need something to think about other than nitrites LOL!

I have a 30L biorb, so i'm after miniature fish, preferably no larger than 1.5" fully grown.
I know that I want some Galaxy Rasbora's and will be willing to buy four (expensive fish! excited to get them!), and some cherry shrimp (three to be exact). I would also like an apple snail.

The shop had some Hengels/Glowlight Rasbora, and I don't think I can, but would I be able to fit any in?

It's no big deal if I can't.
I've heard of people talking about cm's for fish for litres in the tank (if that makes sense). How do you work out the size of shrimp in that calculation? is it the same as for fish?
And again with the snails, do you add more on to them because of the amount of waste they produce?

I could easily agree with WD that the galaxy rasboras are hard to come by and are going to be a good fish to use if you can find any. I can never find any. Instead I would be looking for a few of the smaller livebearers, since I am a livebearer fanatic fancier. I instead would be considering black chins or Heterandria formosa or even golden teddies. All of these very nice livebearers never grow to more than your 1.5 inches but each offers something for the fish keeper to appreciate.

My black chins are too new to my tanks for me to have great pictures of them but there are plenty of pictures available on line like this one.

everything sounds ok cherry shrimp and snail are definite thumbs up
galaxy rasboras are a great choose as well

ithink you should continue your plans they sound fine

in fish/invertebrate calculations everyone fish and invertebrate is differnet so the results are not exactly right

The tiny little LFS round the corner from my house has Galaxy Rasbora's in lol! Im tempted to pop in and take a pic of them.

Should i just keep with the idea of the Galaxy's, the shrimp and the snail then and not get the other rasboras? Having a galaxy tank... hhmmm i think some people will be green with envy
Would i have enough room to bump the numbers of Galaxy's up to 6? I don't think this would happen until September. Its only about £11.50 for two ( ) but i'd rather wait and not spend £35 on 6 fish in one go (shrimps are £10 for three and the snail will be a few quid also  )

Those livebearers are very nice. I dont think ive ever seen them before

Oh yeah, try and get a pic! I'm always interested to see real fish owned by our members here as you sometimes don't know how doctored up or how exceptional one of those popular web photos might be compared to the more average reality. WD

Im contemplating getting a different type of shrimp other than cherry's. Am i jumping in the deep end if i do?

Ill definately get a genuine photo of the galaxy's WD lol

Would i be able to do:
4 x galaxy rasbora's - eventually upping to 6
7 x shrimp
1 x apple snail

Can two different types of shrimp live in one tank? It will be quite heavily planted for a little tank

The only thing I know about shrimp (other than enjoying some of the nice looking close-up shots of them  ) is that they supposedly represent a very small bioload. I've never had shrimp myself and have never studied what what it takes to give them the best survival chances. So it would be good if someone else could say more about shrimp.

To answer Twinklecaz's question, none of the fish I have shown in this thread are even related to guppies. The golden teddies in my own pictures are properly called Xenophallus umbratillis. The black chins that I posted a link to are called Girardinus metallicus. Both are entirely different species to the Poecilia reticulata, guppies.

just to pick up on the galaxy rasbora notes in this thread.. what should you expect to pay for them?

love the look of them!

these little boogers are going to cost me £5.75 each
expensive for a very tiny fish

I may be able to post pics tomorrow for you if i go and get 2 of them :)

that'd be great... my list so far has little colour, i'm not struck by the tetra's... looking for a genre i can pick that has a range of colours that will all go together... so i can get four lots of four different coloured rasboras as a shoal...
