Hello! I'm looking for stocking ideas for my new 75 gallon tank. My water parameters are:
pH: 7.4
Hardness: soft (~2-4 degrees GH)
Tank is cycled
Sand substrate
Driftwood, rocks, and live plants

Currently going to put my 8 beckford's pencilfish, several rabbit snails, and 10 kuhli loaches in the tank, so the new fish have to be compatible with them.
Some ideas I had are (not all at the same time):
2-3 pearl gourami
Maybe apistogramma agassizii/rams/kribs
Small school of ember tetras or rummynose tetras
School of cories
Maybe boesemani rainbow fish

I'm very open to ideas and suggestions! I'm not huge on bigger cichlids like angelfish, and I prefer fish that are snail compatible as I have a breeding population of rabbit snails that will be added to the tank. Thank you!

I can't say much about the species you've suggested, as I've only ever kept Ember tetras. I do reckon they'd look great alongside the Beckfords. The only thing I would say could be a slight issue is feeding, as the becksfords get to around 3x the size of average embers, so they could be quite bossy towards the embers, potentially. pH could be a little lower, which the embers would favour too. If you do opt for them, I would attempt to go for as big a group as possible so they aren't as intimidated.

Other members will have more knowledge/experience with the other species you've listed :)

german blue rams are out due to temperature requirement; if you have a lot of hiding places and fine substrate a dwarf cichild might work but they will definitely snap at the loaches; pygmy and hastatus might work with a dwarf cichild; but the other larger species will not - it has more to do with timidness and level (for example my group of 30 pygmy usually stay lower to mid level but rarely on the substrate when moving).

I don't really like mixing asian fishes with sa fishes (rummy, gourami, rainbow) the only exception (for me) have been loaches - so i think you need to first decide which region of the world you want.

Also is your ph locked at 7.4 (did you test it a few days later to see if it changed) or do you have high kh.

Thank you both for your advice!
I think I'd go with asian fish, then. I'm growing a little attached to the pearl gourami idea. Do you have any fish recommendations for ones that would go well with that?

My kH usually comes back as 2-3 degrees on my tanks, but the pH is always at 7.4 for every tank every time I test it.

There are cherry barbs and a few dozen others; and a million and one different species of rainbow while a few have special traits most it is just a matter of picking what is available and appeals to you. I woudl start by looking at what appeals to you and checking if it wants upper or lower space and aggression level; cherry barbs for example mostly stay in the lower 1/3 to 1/2 esp if you have plants for them to hide in.
