Some advice please. When i have completed my cycle would i be able to keep these fish as a community.
This would be in my Roma240 with a fluval 305, pH is 7.4

1x blue acara
6x black phantom tetra
6x bronze corys
6x cherry barbs
6x tiger barbs
1x bristlenose

Many thanks, Skins.

is the Roma 240 240L?
I would have thought it would be OK. No experience of Acara's, but your tigers should be OK in a group of 6. I would keep a good eye on them though to make sure they are not nipping at the acara or the tetra.

Out of curiousity, are you having 6 'original' tigers, or some greens as well? (i love the greens)

Yes its a 240ltr. I would like to keep the originals(love there markings),shame you can't buy muzzles for them lol.

P.s have you had much nipping with your barbs?

No - mine havent nipped at all. The worst it gets is between 2 male Rosy barbs which like to circle each other all day long. i think they want a girl...
But a long time ago, i had 2 tigers in a tank with an angel and that didn't end well. But with 6 your should be OK

Also i would whack in a fair few plants into this tank. That should help the tetra escape if they get chased by either the tigers or the Acara

Thanks Timmy_Bee :good:

I've fell in love with the blue acara BUT if anyone thinks it is not a good idea to mix one with other species on my stocking list please advise.

If the blue acara reaches the maximum size, it might eat the others.. but they rarely do reach maximum size. If I was to keep a blue acara in that tank, I would use the following stocking:

1 acara
10 schooling fish of one species
10 schooling fish of another species
6-8 Brochis splendens (or a large species of Cory)
1m 2f bristlenoses

..where schooling fish would be larger tetras, for example I would take Congo tetras and bleeding heart tetras. Diamond tetras, some of the larger Barbs, etc, would also be ok. I would avoid "thin" bodied fish such as giant danios as they might make an easier meal if it ever comes to that.

Many thanks Kitty Kat for your suggestions, will be looking into it.
I do want schooling fish which would be ok with the acara.
What large species of cory would you/anyone recommend?

Skins.

can't help you with the cory's - not a huge fan.
But if you are thinking more barbs, how about:

1 acara
10 Tiger Barb
10 Gold Barb
6-8 Brochis splendens (or a large species of Cory)
1m 2f bristlenoses

Or

8 Tiger
6 Gold
6 Odessa

Edit: i mean have these 3 barbs as well as the acara / cory / BN

Thanks Timmy_bee :good:
