Hi,

I'm new to keeping tropical fish, and have had my tank running with fish in it for just over a month.

I have a Jewel Rio 125, specs here: http://www.theaquariumshop.co.uk/juwel-rio-125-o-26.html

I've currently have the following fish:

5 Neon Tetras
1 Corydoras haraldschultzi

After two weeks I added:

6 Black Neon Tetras

2 Dwarf Gourami (1 male, 1 female)

Its now been just over 2 weeks after adding the second batch of fish, and all seem well.

PH is about 7
KH is about 5
GH is about 10
Ammonia is 0
NO2 is 0
NO3 is around 20

Here's a photo of my setup:

I'm wondering how many more fish I can add (if any), and what recommendations you have for which species to get?

Thanks for your help,

Andy

It would appear you have about a 33 (long) gallon tank, which, to my knowledge, would indeed allow you to house a few more fish at least.

You might want to consider getting a few more cories. To my knowledge, most (If not all?) species of cories are more happy in small groups, say 3-4 together.
Otherwise, there might be enough room to add a small shoal of another type of schooling fish (Another type of tetra, or possibly danios?).

I suppose these are only suggestions, really. It's in your best interests to wait for someone else with more experience to say if I'm right or wrong before proceeding too far.

Good luck anyway, and welcome to the board. :)

more corys! they look so cute having lots scuttling around the tank together

with the corys, is it best to keep to the same variety, or does this not matter?. My fish shop didnt seem to have any more Corydoras haraldschultzi when I bought my second batch of fish

Since my last post I've added more tetras, 2 amano shrimp and a freshwater crab.

So now I have:

10 Neon tetras
12 Black Neon tetras
1 cory
2 Dwarf Guarmi (1 male 1 femail)
2 Amano Shrimp
1 Freshwater crab

My fish shop didnt have any of the same corys so I got the new tetras instead. Now the fish shop has some more of the corys in, and I'd like to get some more, as my single cory seems a bit lonely! My only concern is over stocking.

Do I have any room left to add some more corys, and if so how many can I fit? I was thinking of 2-3 more?

Thanks for your help

Just bumping this up again.

I reckon I have about 28 inchs of fish (probably an over estimate, using an inch per tetra), and my tank is 28 uk gallons, 33 us gallons.

I've read about the 1 inch per gallon rule, but is this based on us gallons, or uk gallons?

Either way, the level is borderline for more fish.

Is it safe to add 2 or 3 more corys?

Hi Not sure about your stocking levels, but a black background on that tank would look good. It would hide the filter abit and show up the rest of the tank nicely.

I've read anywhere from 1" per US gallon to 2" per UK gallon. For my 29 gallon tank I've read I can keep 29" of fish up to 42" of fish depending on the source.
