hi guys

just finished a long cycling of a new planted 80litre tank

running a fluval u4
and a medium interpet filter of unknown name
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 30ppm

wondering if im good with the plans for stocking it

ideas are:

3 peppered corydoras
2 albino corydoras
7 lemon tetras
2 electric blue rams

any advice/concerns would be greatly appreciated

Looks like good stock, maybe the following:
6 Peppered Corydoras
10 Lemon tetras
2 Rams

or

4 Peppered Corydoras
4 Albino Corydoras
10 Lemon tetras
2 Rams

That does leave room for more Lemon tetras, but it is a good base to start with. I would advise to keep only one species of Cory from an aesthetic point of view. The Corys do, of course, need sand.

thats a relief, i liked the look of sand when i set it up =)

wasnt aware i could have any more

forgot to add i have a single albino sucking loach i plan to move over

The Rams need a high temp whereas the corys need a low temperature.
And I would only have 5 Peppered Cories or 5 Albinos but not both.

corys need to be kept in groups of atleast 4. Blue rams would work in a tank this size but they ned higher temps 28-32.
In a 80L if you really want the rams you could go for
2 Electric blue rams (1m 1f)
15 Rummynose tetra
8 Sterbai corys
and have the temp about 28C.

if you dont want to give up the other fish you could go for
8 Peppered corydoras or Albino corydoras
8 Lemon tetras
3 Apistogramma agassizii (1m 1f)

would it be possible to swap the corys for the higher temperature ones and keep the lemon and rams?

Well, it depends on individual set-up.. I personally think that planted tanks can normally take a couple more fish over an unplanted one and a mature tank a few more over a newly-stocked one. I think that is a good stock for the first 3-6 months. After that, you should be able to tell by obsetving the tank, if it will take any more fish.

Hmm, the Loach will probably become a problem.. they can get quite nasty with age and Rams are quite sensitive to disturbances. You can try it, but I have found them to be a pain.

Sterbai corys like higher temps and would work well with rams but lemon tetra wont like the temps rams need.

I would not have Sterbai, because they are larger.

I am sure someone will complain, but I have never had a problem keeping successfully breeding wild and F1 from wild rams in 25-26°C tank long term. It is up to you if you want to try it, but by the sound of things, a lot of people do not have success with lower temperatures.

would it be possible to have a happy medium between the tetras and the rams?

the corys im not so bothered about as long as i have something that can disturb the sand at the bottom

yeah but theres enough room for them in a 80L.

How long did they live for? ive heard of a few people breeding blue rams in lower temps but they often only live for about 6months not the 3years + like they should.

Not really as albino and bronxe corys like it about 22-25C and electric blue rams like it 28-32C so theres not real middle without upsetting one of them. As rams are eartheater they will help disturb the sand.

Cardinal Tetras maybe? I think their upper range is around 28°C
And rummy nose tetra they do great at higher temps.

If you want the rams go for something like
2 Electric blue rams (1m 1f)
15 Rummynose tetra or Cardinal tetra
8 Sterbai corys

the corys im not so bothered about it was the lemon tetras i would idealy like to keep

if i cant keep the corys ill stock with something else maybe a killifish? for the upper strata or the sterbai corys

i just realy like lemons :p

Disagree because I regularly see them in the 7+cm range at my LFS.

The wild pairs lived for 3 years, with one pair making it to 4. The F1 for 4 years on average.
