Hi my tank has been set up for about a year now its a 48l interpet tank at the moement i have 1 silver mollie, 3 beacon tetras, 2 platy and 2 honey gourmie.

I was wondering if i can put anymore in my tank and if i can what would brighten the tank up a bit.

Thanks in advance

I would add 3 more Beacon Tetras and a group of 6 Pygmy Cories (so long as you dont have sharp gravel)

Hi yes i do have gravel is that no no for them. is there anything else.

Well, I have the same tank and i'm going to be putting 1 betta, 6 endlers, 6 pygmy corys and 6 cherry shrimps in there. Might give you some ideas! You could also try some dwarf danio and maybe some Embra tetras.

I have the same tank & after it has cycled I was thinking of 1 Honey Gourami (male), 4 Fancy Guppies (male), 6 shoalers (not decided which yet) & maybe a lil pussfish.

Thanks guys so how many in total can i have in my tank the bloke in the shop said i could only have up to 10 and i have 8 at the moement thought it looked a bit empty.
Do i have to have a sand bottom with any of these fish its just i have gravel.

The rule of thumb is 1" of fish per Gallon of water. So 48 litres = 10.55852 Gallons. But dont forget you have put gravel in the tank & 1 kilogram displaces 1 litre of water. So if you have 4 kg of gravel you have to take that away so it actualy becomes a 44 litre tank.
44 litres = 9.67 Gallons.

So if all of your fish grow to an inch long you can only put 10 in the tank at the very most (I rounded the total up).

Dont use the useless and unaccurate 1" of fish rule. Instead, list all the fish you are interested in and members here will give you a possible stock list. :good:

Ok someone else just told me i am seriously overstocked and should think about getting rid of my tetras because they should be kept in groups of 6 and i could be causing damage to them even though they are a year old. And i should not under any circumstances put anymore fish in my tank.

im confused

You're not overstocked, you have space for as Wills said, 3 more Beacon Tetras and a group of small bottom dwellers

Ok will do that i do have normal gravel at bottom is there anything else instead.

Pygmy Corys should be OK as long as you don't have sharp gravel that could do them damage. Most of the time, the corys are not even on the substrate, they swim in the middle of the aquarium, most of the time

Ok thankyou do you think i need to get another mollie for my other i read somewhere they should be kept in pairs.

Thanks for your help its much appreciated :good:

Mollys are fine kept singly. If you have a female molly and you add a male molly, they will reproduce a lot :hyper:
