I am going to start dosing TPN+ and Flourish Excel tomorrow in my 180 litre planted tank. It is moderately planted with general run of the mill easy going plants. Not looking for a massive increaso in growth, would just be happy with healthier looking plants.

So was thinking of dosing 1ml a day? Would this be adviseable? If not then what would you suggest?

Thanks. David.

on a 180 ltr you're going to be looking at about 1ml per 20 ltrs of TPN+, so 9mls of TPN+. I'm sure Excel is 1ml per 50 ltrs, so 4mls will cover this.

That's a starting dose as well, David. Some planted tank require more when a carbon addition is added. This is what happens when you start to meander down the high tech route.

LOL! So what do you recommend for my 35L then?

So for the 180 it will be 8ml of TPN+ and 4ml of the Flourish Excel?

Also when should i be doing water changes and how much? The tank is moderately stocked with fish and is running a Fluval 305 and a TetraTEC 1200

Thanks.

Yeah ok Smartie pants!

again, once you start with the higher tech stuff, you need to ensure your water changes get done, about 50% a week or break it up into 2 water changes. I do 2 a week at present.

so...9ml of TPN+ AND 4ML of excel. Give it a couple of weeks and you'll see a difference.

as for the 35ltr, you'll need to dose 1.75ml of TPN+ and about .75 of a ml of Excel.

Thanks for the info Ian. I have read the info that comes with it and it states i should do about a 25% water change before i start dosing, is this correct? Will water change in the morning, then again Tuesday night and again on saturday, would that be ok? I'll do a 25% change each time if that is adviseable?!

hmmm, something else I completely missed when I started dosing carbon. Still, worked for a year with 30-40% changes once a week....but good to know.

Think I'm getting closer to accepting a fire extinguisher as an option.

LOL! I am roughly doing about 30% water changes weekly atm already, so abother bucket full won't hurt.

that sounds fine, the reason you'd need to up the water changes is because you plants will respire more as you're giving them more to do, this in turn will give off more organic waste from the plants.

so, much more easier. Tell the wife, theres nothing to worry about with the cylinder (a lot of women in our lives struggle to get there heads around us messing with pressurised cylinders). They are fine when done properly. They work out loads cheaper as well.
