i have recently acquired 2 convict chiclids i rescued form a friend. i have a 3o gallon Tall tank i could put them in for now ...any suggestions on plants rocks and decorations..water chemistry???

Convicts really prefer longer tanks because they spend most of their time at the bottom, I would stick with the 2 you got now, especially if its male and female.

Convict cichlids are the hardiest little #19###s out there, and will make themselves at home in whatever space you give them. They will prefer sand substrate, and rocks and driftwood, but it really, really doesnt matter. Convicts also enjoy shredding and uprooting plants, so Java ferns sand Anubias would be best, due to their Hardy nature and thick leaves. Make sure you have a male and female convict, though, as once they get older, two same sex convicts will not get along in such a small tank.

On another note, my female also absolutely loves a little generic flower pot that I stuck in her tank, though I don't see why :/

Thanks all for the feed back should i be using base rock. ?
