Spray Bar Position

May be a stupid question but i wondered if it is ok to place my spray bar just below the later level on my tank?

Yes, thats perfectly fine to place your spray bar below the water surface.
 
In fact that's where I've placed mine, about half inch under water with spray nozzles up towards front of the tank and slightly upwards.
 
Give water ripples and flow.

cheers for quick reply. thought as much and sound like i got mine set up same as yours. made hell of a recket above the water line!!

Above the water line gives the best amount of aeration and flow to water IMO but like you say, is just a teensy bit noisy and makes people want to go to the toilet!
 
Am deaf and cannot hear it myself but annoys any visitors I get to my flat! 

 
So had to change it to an under water spraybar so that I can keep my friends!

i completley agree with Ch4rlie under the water looks great aesthetically, provides good flow and is sooooo much quieter
perfect if like me your tank is in your bedroom
