Hey everyone! Recently me and my boyfriend bought an injured spotted gar from uncle bills. He was in a tank that was way to tiny for him. We could tell his mouth was a little beat up when we first got him but didn't realize exactly how bad until we got home. His poor mouth is literally split almost in the middle (its more off to the side) all the way down to almost where his mouth starts on his head!! We named him woody because of it since it literally looks like a split log. I have no clue how it could of possibly got this bad at the petstore unless he swam right into the tank sides at full force or something. I feel so bad for him We are trying to nurse him back to health. He however is not eating feeders and I think this is because it hurts to hold them in his mouth. Is there any kind of frozen food I could try feeding to him that wouldn't hurt his mouth as much until it starts to heal up? Will it ever heal up? I was thinking about going out and buying some stress coat that has aloe vera in it to try and help the wound heal faster. I used it on my bichir and ropefish when they got their fins all completely chewed off from a tank mate (who is now gone) and it helped them heal and grow back! Took almost 2 months but it worked. Is there any other medicine anyone would recommend? We also have a red tail catfish in the tank with the gar so any medicine that wont affect catfish would be nice! Please help!! I will try to post a pic as soon as I get home!
