A while ago, I though I could make friends of a Jack Dempsey and a Green Terror. It worked for a little while, but after about a week, they started a fierce jaw locking bout. Thankfully, nobody died, but the green terror ended up with a split bottom jaw, which makes it difficult for her to nab food. I have been feeding her smaller pellets, and treating the water with an aloe enriched dechlorinate. The two fish get along fine now, and in retrospect, I probably should have tried to separate them, but I was kinda a novice, and didn't understand what was going on. Soon after, she layed down some eggs... which were of course, were not fertilized by my jack ( I guess hes not into her).

My question is this: Is there anything else that I can do to help her get better? Should I set her up in a quarantine tank? Will this injury ever heal to where she can eat properly? I am not sure what the best course of action is, I just want her to get better ;)

help would be much appreciated....

Well...since you have already had them fight to the point of what souds a severe injury, you should seperate them permenantly. Adding Melafix to the water and keeping it pristine will help also.

How long has she had the split jaw.
Does it look infected.

It has been about 6 months. It doesn't look infected, but the skin tissue has been slowly peeling away. It's starting to look better, I just wonder if she will ever get to a point where she can eat stuff that is better for her size.

They get along fine now, can you explain why she needs to go to a seperate tank? Is that just so I can concentrate on her getting better, or is that to keep them apart?

If the skin is peeling you will need a bacterial med.
Not sure of your location.
United states maracyn plus, uk myxazin.

Thanks! I am in the US. I will pick some up tomorrow.

Pretty soon, they are both moving into a tank with 3 silver dollars. I have heard that SDs are sensitive to medication, so should put her in a separate tank with the meds for a while, or will the SDs tolerate it?

Its always best to issolate when using bacterial meds.
Don't forget to increase aeration in the tank with the med.
Good luck.
