:/ I have two sparkling gouramies, now seperated. The smaller one some while back looked likea chunk had been taken out of her tail, which I treated with melafix. It grew back without a problem.
This morning the same chunk was taken out of it. I put some melafix in the tank but this evening her tail was a wreck! Like it had been shredded! My obvious fear is she has a secondary infection like fin rot and immediately took her out and treated her with a small dose of melafix before putting in my 55g where the fish are all placid (the brachy's, although highly active at night happily live with the angels and platties of the same size as the gouramie). The 55g is being treated anyway since the inhabitants are fairly new and one of the brachies has a sore from a less attentive previous owner. :( )
Is there anything else I can do for her?
In the not too distant future she will be rehomed to a slightly smaller tank with the endlers and platties only. Will she be ok until then in the 55g?
Sorry for all the q's. It was just a little unexpected for such a dramatic detereoration over the day in my absence. Would it have been the other gouramie who did this? She's in tip top condition with blue through her tail and fins now and a little bigger then the other.
Water params in that tank are NitrIte 0 Ammonia 0 and NitrAte around 30ppm. PH 7.7. Temp:26. All params are the same apart from temp being 24 and nitrAte at 12.5ppm.

i would say it very likely could have been the other grouamie...especially if they are both males...i have 8 of them and found it spreads the aggression between the males..

it's kind of sad, and i'm not sure what i'm gonna do yet, but since the sparkling gouramis have come into the picture, my male blue paradise fish has been bullied down to the bottom and is missing parts of his tail - so these little devils ARE nippers

I had read they can be highly aggresive towards each other. And with other blatently being the boss of the two (I have no idea what sex they are, I just call them female for some odd reason. :*) ) I did wonder last time. But it was a good 3 weeks ago now, hence the tail having grown back. I guess after this I'm not gonna take anymore chances. They'll live in seperate tanks now and I just hope the move doesn't freak her too much. :(
Sounds like your paradise fish needs to be moved a.s.a.p too! I will soon have a proper quarantine tank to use thankfully.

yea it really bothers me that they were fine for over a month together and out of nowhere the agression started to show...they don't even attempt to attack the larger, female paradise fish though :dunno:

You could add more sparklers and more plants / hiding spaces. I've got 10 juvies in a planted 70 litre, and cos there's so many the aggression is spread out to non-damaging levels. They are definitely little buggers tho!
