how many could i have in a 10g tank?
are they bubblnesters?
how do you sex them?
and are they easy to breed?

hello! sparkling gouramis have recently become one of my fav fish to keep. i started off with 3 in a 5 gallon and yesterday i added 3 more. the first 3 i had help compare the full grown ones (about 1.5 inches) to the new juvies (about an inch). the adults seem massive in size but are still micro. they are very easy to care for. shy at first, they spend most of their time hiding. when i added the new 3 they have all really come out and are now fun to watch. i recommend keeping them in larger groups which they prefer. like any gourami species keep them more females to males, this doesnt go along with how hard they are to sex. sexing is difficult and you wont know when you first get them. sexing them is easier when they are in the mood to breed and also when they are full grown. males have more color than the females IME. ive never bred them but i hear its not hard. They like it planted with calm water. unfortunatly mine arent in low current but high from all the filtration i have. filtration is the key in their health and overstocking. these fish have been cheap and stayed cheap in the fish hobby for years which i think makes them overlooked. theyll eat about anything such as flakes to wafers. i feed mine flakes, shrimp pellets, algae wafers, and frozen bloodworm.

in your 10 gallon tank i would say 7-8 at first. give them plenty of nooks and crannys for them to pop out of. tank mates would be any gentle fish. no fish that would ever be a threat to them. like all gouramis they are prone to infections and such. them being such a small and shy fish i think species only is a good way to go. i know corys do not bother them at all and they are good with shrimp too. i was at the store the other day and was looking at some galaxy rosboras. ive never seen such a small fish that stays small! a tank with a mix of these two would be something special. thats just my fascination for micro fish though. and at 10 dollars per galaxy R. was like they can wait.

when they light hits their eyes just right youll see how beautiful these fish are. good luck! let us know how you like them

hmm, well i dont keep sparkling gouramis, but i have and hopefully soon will keep honey gouramis and they are really nice fish so id recomend them, but i wouldnt recomend with a betta as i dont believe they get on well with gouramis and they could seem a threat to them.

but i have never kept bettas so best of double cecking but i personaly wouldnt risk it. :/
