hi a question for all you south american cichlids experts out there what is there natural enviroment like im trying to create a tank that mimics there naturals enviroment at the minuet i have planted bog wood sand substrate vallis amazone swords and a few crypts planted so far ok i would class the tank as heavly planted its a 700litre tank. current resiedents are a pair of jags a pair of severums a midus and a texas all seem to get along just fine

Your amazon sword & vallis will be ripped to shreds, plastic and silk plants are best. The texas can do damage to plastic plants once they get bigger. It sounds a nice set up. :good:

All but the severums are actually Central American fish. I know its a big tank but not sure how the others will fare if the jags are breeding.

How big are the fish.

Should be a nice tank if it works out though :) - but as said those plants are going to get fubared.

been contemplating removing the plants and just leaving in the bog wood ill see how they far over the next few months ill also try and get some photos up of the tank

Nice pics of the texas please :good:

nice, large tank, but as those fish mature I foresee trouble ahead. As others have said, the plants will be ripped to shreds at some point. .
I'm sure you'll ultimately get a good balance as they grow, removing troublemakers, but it won't include all the fish you have at the moment.
Would like to see some pics too !

So, to answer your original question, I think your stock list will limit your decor, rather than any perceived biotope. And, of course, your fish range from a variety of biotopes anyway ... SA and CA. Nice tank though. Stay in touch !
