Ok planted peeps, i've got my tank pretty much setup but i've still got a few issues i'd like to at least understand so any advice appreciated.
The tank:
Starting from left to right i have
hygrophila polysperma
Hygrophila rosae australis
cryptocoryne wendtii green x 2
On the wood i have Java Fern and Windelov i think its called.
Amazon swords x 2
More cryptocoryne wendtii green
A tonne of vallis.
Anubias nana on wood and some offcuts of a crypt.
The tank is 400 litres, i have two tetratec ex1200's and two hydor nano 900l/p circulation pumps. It all sits under 2 x T5 Tropical 58W lights. Light are on for 6 hours a day, Co2 from fire extinguisher is diffused by ladder at the back of the tank, also on for 6 hours a day staggered by 2 hours. Thats pumping out at roughly 4/5 bubbles a sec at the moment, struggling to get a lime green colour but not 100% sure if thats necessary as long as its stable? I dose TPN+ weekly, about 50ml after i do a 40%-50% water change.
Firstly, the Hygro's both seem to struggle and i get some leaf loss caused by the kribs and the odd tiger barb nom noming on them. The australis has only been in there two weeks now and is looking pretty limp.
The Windelov basically seems to be dying off, leaves go dark, covered in brown/black crud and i tear them off. The large Java fern seems to "survive" but again leaves getting a little manky. The crypts are doing "ok" but they develop a dark sheen on them, which seems to be diatoms and/or no particular algae i can identify. I give the leaves a rub with my fingers from time to time. The Swords were rescued from my old tank, i stripped them down to 4/5 big leaves and although its trying to grow new leaves, the poxy fish eat them.
The vallis is growning well, but it does seem to develop darkened tips on some stems, not all. I occasionally have to pluck out a dead light yellow piece now and again.
Anubias grows but leaves get the brown crud growing on them.
While i appreicate some of the plants are going to get chomped on, i'd like to know what i can do about the browning of the leaves, i'm a bit anal and want my green plants to stay green :>
The two nano circulation pumps are my latest edition, i should be around the x10 mark now on circulation, im hoping that this to some degree sorts it out.
Any advice on an alternative plant to create a wall on the left of the tank appreicated, as im not sure these two are going to make it! (I want to avoid cabomba, disgusting plant imo)
Cheers!
