So I am trying to get some ideas on my tank setup as I have an apartment now and Plan to set up my tank over the next couple of months. As it will take some time for the fishless cyle, I figure I would ask you guys for stocking ideas. We are looking to do another malawi setup as my husband loves malawis and they make for a nice colorful living room tank.

So its a 75g tank filtered by a Rena Filstar XP4. Im not sure of the lighting, but as the setup wont have plants it doesnt really matter. We plan on using white texas holey rock for the rockwork and caving system, of course they will be set up on top of eggcrates because those crazy fish like to dig lol. What do y'all suggest? White or black sand? I want to know what will contrast the fish best (we used an reddish colored sand last time and I didnt really like it)

So last stock in the tank we had 10 Blue Zebras, 10 Yellow labs, and some Haplochromis species. I would like to do something different with the stocking this time, but still go with Malawis. Any suggestions?

I cant help with stocking but id advice to go for a natural rock. Its looks more natural and looks good when algae starts to grow over it. Your holey rock will go all green and not look great. cheers

Yeah I have had some peices to that, but I always took them out, scrubbed them down with a toothbrush. TO me any rock looks gross with algae growth so I always was cleaning them no matter what. It requires a bit more work but oh well.
