We had about 1/4 of the rain last winter compared to normal, and haven't had rain here since August last year, and that was below average too. I hate living in a desert.
 
I love the lake that formed on your lawn, and I am impressed at how quickly it went away! We have a lake that forms in the back of our lawn every spring, and it takes about two months to go away.... darn midwest clay soil....

On the coast they do what is called flipping. They dig down about 2-3 meters and then bring the iron pan to the surface, this makes the land free draining it is incredible how fast it clears away
