Hate to say it but I think those glass fish in the first picture have been dyed. Its a horrible practise that is cruel to the fish and risks all kinds of diseases entering the hobby.

Wills
You can dye fish???? That’s a thing??? Do glo fish undergo a similar process??

No glofish are genetically modified - I believe with Jellyfish DNA (which is a whole other ethical question but not necessarily cruel) but dyed fish are a thing and glass fish are one of the common victims. Its done either through various chemicals baths or they sometimes physically inject the fish a bit like a tattoo.

The painted glassfish are either painted with a paint or injected. They look more like painted tho. The paint eventually wears off and the fish go back to normal. The stress associated with painting causes most of them to develop Lymphocystis, which causes white lumpy growths to appear on their body and fins. It's a stress virus that goes away if the fish get over the stress.

I love those halfbeaks. I'm a huge fan of them.

Unfortunately, that happens more and more... At vivaristic events we're not allowed to offer such fish.

Yeah its a bit of a rule for me if I see it in the shop I'm not buying anything. We were in a garden centre the other week and I noticed they had a small aquatics area, wandered over and saw dyed Skirt Tetras. Told my wife to put everything for the garden back and went elsewhere. I do similar if I see stores selling monsters too like Pangasius or Red Tail Cats.

I mean... Sure the shop sells them but they didn't do it...

Yes but if they sell 20 dyed fish, they will buy 20 more and the people that do it will sell them 20 more and dye 20 more. Dyed fish is often an indicator of a bad shop too IME so expect diseases and defects in the rest of the stock.

I get your point. For if they sell those fish, they'll order them again...

Yah... True but I guess I don't care cause all the shops around me sell them so I only have two options lol
