Softening water.

How do you make your water soft because iv'e heard people talk about it.

I'm not sure that you can make water soft in the same way as you can add stuff to lower or raise the pH but you sure can buy the stuff. Go to your lfs and ask if they sell Reverse Osmosis water (RO water). Basically the water is forced through a VERY fine filter which removes the dissolved chemicals and even dissolved gasses! You are left with 99.9% pure water. Doesn't come much finer than that! You could, if you wanted buy an RO unit.

my water is at 8 ph from the tap, add this stuff, ull get it from the lfs...

You can often buy RO water from the lfs. I have my own system as I tend to use a lot of it. Be aware, RO water is not suitable for aquarium use without the addition of stabilising salts, Kent RO right for example. It has negligible buffering capacity and it's pH can swing wildly without stabilisation.
