After having some small(ish) stones and an ornament in my tank for a yr now, I decided to soak them in bleach over night to remove the stuborn dirt which just wouldnt come off by scrubbing.

They have now come up a treat, I plan to put them back into the tank during next weeks water change, what should i do this week to ensure that nothing harmful is left on the stones/ornaments on re-entry into the tank ?

Thanks in Advance.

hi.im not sure i would have been tempted to soak them in bleach, but you have to make sure they are very very well rinsed, maybe with boiling water too.fish in the wild dont have spotlessly clean stones to play around,so i dont think they would have minded a bit of green on them, but what i usually do is scrub mine every week in the bowl of water i have just taken from the tank, using the sponge from the filter, that way i can be sure that they are both getting a clean without destroying or causing any harm.
another sugg would be, if you have a big bucket put them all in there and cover with water and change the water in there often till you are ready to put them back in the tank.
im sure you will lots of advice ,and im relatively new to fishkeeping so thats my best advice, but good luck

Seachem's directions for recharging thier Purigen media say to soak it for 24 hours in a bleach mixture and then to kill the bleach, to soak for 8 hours in a mixture of 2 tablespoons of dechlorinator to 1 cup of water. That should work to get the chlorine off your decorations.

Im gonna soak them in de-chrolinated water for the rest of the week & re-enter them to the tank at the weekend.

Thanks for all ur advise ppl. :good:
