So you purchase a nice new large tank, you make the space for it to go but it doesnt occur to the tiny brain to make sure you can actually get it into the room its final resting place will be.

Yep 5ft tank, 51cm wide, 63cm tall and a very narrow hallway leading to the room it needs to go in. Now clearly the tank wont bend around the corners, plus you also have banisters in the way to lift it up and over (even if you could as its extremely heavy!) What do you do?

If you 'up-end' it, do you risk cracking the tank as all the weight will be shifted to the one end?

Help because no matter what way we try there is no conceivable way to get this tank into the room :-( Ive even measured the window from the room to the outside of the house, its 1cm wider than the width of the tank, however, the bleedin window doesnt open wide enough, Ive considered taking the window out but Im scared I couldnt get it back in again!

We had no problems with the 4ft tank, but apparently the extra 12" is pushing our luck.

Putting the tank on one end is something I've always been advised against, but had no real problem with :good:

You could always cut it up and re-assemble in the room...

All the best

Ah I shall get the chainsaw out then

We have tried knocking the banisters out though!!!! My landlady will love me

Do you really think we could get away with up-ending it then? I dont want to throw £500 down the drain.

make sure there enough pair of hands around then, nice and easy up end it,,,,someone support the bottom and another walking it into the room....
or does you or anyone you know have a skateboard?get a nice size sheet of wood put a duvet over top and up end tank on that, someone support the wood on skateboard and wheel it it,,,obviously make sure the wood will also make the door width :good:

I've upended a 4ft 70 gallon tank before,I was very nervous about it,and waited until i had 3 strong men here with me to move it,we did it slowly and had guys picking up on the sides as we did it to help spread out the weight.......I don't know man,it's scary stuff be careful. Are your windows modern type? If so you should be able to pop the windows right out of the frames. Good luck!

Well theres me, my 14yr old and 17yr old to lift it, thats it, just moving it along the floor is a nightmare. Im not sure how we can up-end it without kinda lifting from one end and literally pushing it up on the end - which I just know is gonna crack it.

The windows are old double glazing types, my son has worked out where we can unscrew them to pull it out, but Ive no idea if I can get it back in again.

The thing is, when the tank was delivered last Tuesday, the only way we could do it, without thinking, was to upend it, we got it in the room, but once out of the box, one corner was smashed in - NOW I dont know if we did that or if it was already smashed from transit - Im too scared to try it again in case it was us, the company I dont think would accept that two tanks in a row were damaged upon arrival.

Hey anyone around the wolvo area tomorrow morning want to come give us a hand?

do you know anyone who moves furniture? sack trucks or a skateboard with caution..........this was what we used when we used to move furniture,,,it was a diy board with skate wheels on bottom, worked wonders :good:

The delivery guy has one of those things they use to lift the pallet out of the truck, not sure if he will help us once its inside, guess it cant hurt to ask.

another idea...go and get you duvet of the bed put it in doorway on floor stretched out....place tank upright in middle,,,,,then lift up duvet to tank, you one end stronger person inside the room and slowly pull the duvet wilst someone supports tank, just enough until its in the room :good: then drop duvet wilst someones still supporting tank, then hey presto

Yeah was thinking of using duvet to stop the tank being placed on hard floor upright, I could also wrap a load of bubble wrap around the end going to the floor to absorb the weight a bit I guess.

have you done it yet,,,hehe ive done tanks this way, done a sofa through a second floor window removing window and standing on my car shoving it through window,,hehe iam a bodge job king

No not yet, new one being delivered tomorrow morning after the cracked tank last week, will let you know how we get on, Im dreding it, my stress levels are thru the roof!! Been sat here all week wondering how on earth we could do it, I am however, about to try to take out the front room window with my limited tools and sheer pigheadedness.

Why, was just gonna see if I could and put it back in before it arrives. Is that a bad thing then? Ohhhhhhhhhhh Nelly - help me pleeeaaase

I thought you had tank already...Ok when the delivery guys arrive tommorow,if they turn up :shifty: Ask them to use the sack trucks or the scateboard type thing and stand it upright,,,seriously with those things and the boxes etc the tank should be fine and wizz it stright through into room desired :good:
