Obviously snails eat plants, but are there any snails that I can purchase that won't eat living plants in my planted aquarium tank, but will eat the dead plants?

Not sure snails can tell the difference between dying and thriving plants lol!

I have nerite snails in my planted tank and they eat the algae and pretty much leave the plants alone.

Why have you got dead plants in your tank? What plants / snails do you have?

Dead or dying plants should be removed. On some plants pruning can encourage fresh growth. Apple snails are a good snail for keeping the glass and leaves algae free and they wont eat them. Plus you can keep their numbers down as the eggs are easy to spot and remove. :good:

snails arent bad. they do a great job cleaning up extra food and some eat algae. ive NEVER had snails eat my plants-alive or dead plants-from pond snails("pest" snails), apples snails. ramshorn or trumpet snails. if you have lots of dead/dying plants you need to prune them yourself. and figure out why the plants are not doing so well so you can rectify the problem.
the only time a tank will be overrun by snails is if you overfeed or have poor tank maintenance. snails are actually great for giving you indications of something amiss in your tank.
if you want a snail expressly for keeping dead plants/leaves under control they will not do this. you need to do it yourself.
cheers

I have a tank with a Goldfish, two Guppies, and 3 Neon Tetra, and one Ghost Shrimp. I want to add a Snail to keep the Algae Problem down, as well as eat the dead plants. However, I don't want to have a Snail problem in my tank because I have living plants in their, and I don't want them to eat my living plants.

Get a nerite snail - they eat algae like a beast!

My tank glass was going a bit green/brown, i bought a zebra nerite and now it's always spotless!

They need about 5gallons per snail, so don't overstock or they'll starve. They won't breed either since they only breed in brackish water.

My ramshorns eat the decaying plants and leave the live ones alone. My endlers try to do the same thing with much poorer results.

Well, my problem is that I can never tell the living plants apart from the dying ones. So I wanted to get that problem resolved. I want to have a nicer aquarium setup, but I don't really know where to begin.
