Hey

I seem to have recently developed a bit of a snail takeover....I started with one or two...cute, but they have multiplied drastically and i now have at least 100. They are destroying my plants...I tried using lettuce to entice them out but it didn't really work....well...i got about 10 of them. My tanks only 16 Gallons so I don't think there are any snail eating fish that will go in such a small tank? I think thats probably my only option though (I don't really want to use chemicals plus fishing out all the dead snails will be a real pain in the arse).

It currently only has 5 Danios and two Dwarf Gourami's...so any fish that will go happily with these fish in a 16 Gall and eat snails? Any ideas?

Thanks.

I tried that.....they don't go up the vacuum....they just sorta float then drop...plus there are TONS of them....seriously....nearly as many snails as there are stones...and they are all over the plants, rocks, substrate and glass.

:S

Actually, botia striata stay small, eat snails and would probably go well in that tank....

I saw this in a pet store. They take a plastic dish of some kind and put this gunk in it. The snails love it and get trapped. Snail trap.

Just like this one. I'm sure you could make a DIY unit.

A friend of mine tried one of those, he turned the lights on one morning and it was loaded with tetras!
I've heard a good way is to place a piece of celery in the tank, turn the lights out and within an hour it should be covered in them so you just remove it. I've never had this problem so I can't say if it works.
