Where are the strands stemming from?

I personally haven't seen anything like this before. Are your plants growing well? I know any kind of plant can release their sugar contents if they are dying (i.e. trees release sap which comprises mainly water and sugar). It could be that the aquarium environment causes the excretion to look unconventional, possibly like the slimy strands in your photo?

I think for a definitive diagnosis you would need to help describe where it is stemming from and describe any chemicals/things added or used near the tank when you first started noticing the problem.

Hope this helps.
