Skimmer Usage

Hi all, recently purchased an Aqua Reef 200 which came with a skimmer for use in the rear refugium compartment. Anyone got a view on how long to use it for i.e. constantly or intermittantly?? I believe it may take a certain amount of time to create froth in cup?

Skimmers usually work best when left on 24/7. Do you have salt/livestock in the tank yet? Without those you won't be skimming much
