Silver Gourami Uprooting Plants

Okay so I have this 12cm long silver Gourami and he just keeps ripping up my plants, no matter what I do, it seems that no amount of gravel is deep enough to stop him, even a rock wasn't enough, is there anything that you guys can suggest that would help?

PS I have considered it and I don't want to get fake plants

Get rid of the gourami, take him back to the shop, if nothing is stopping him then there is nothing you can do. Does he eat the plants? If he eats them it may be because he's hungry and is looking to the plants as a source of food, this could be solved by more frequent feeding.
