The possible 50% tariff on Brazil would wreck havoc on the prices of many beloved species of fish that have yet to be bred in the aquarium hobby (and thus must be wild caught).

It seems like it won't just be Brazilian fish subject to tariffs of some kind. I haven't fish shopped for a while, but I've thought they might be an issue when I do.

Man, it's just sad how everything's gone down...

Just imagine putting tariffs on fish...

Tariffs are being put on everything going into America. Even Australia, which is supposedly a strategic military alli of the USA has been hit with 200% tariffs on some items (that's more than China got stung with). That's not the sort of thing you do to your allis, and sticking tariffs on fish from Brazil is simply going to take money out of the poor people's pockets in Brazil. They won't sell as many fish and will suffer because of it.

Maybe this'll encourage the manufacture of tropical fish....you don't want cardinal tetras just assembled from imported parts ;-)
