I recently bought a Zebra Vail Angel from a tank with one sick fish in it. The fish I bought was not sick at the time. Seven days after purchase, the Angel exibited white spots (4-6) on his pectoral fins. No spots were evident on his body. The Angel appeared agitated, vibrating his body and rubbing against the glass thermometer in the tank. I suspected Ich, but was not sure so I did not treat the tank immediately, I just added 1 tsp of salt per 5 gallons as a general tonic. The white spots disappeared from the Angel and reappeared on my Red Tailed Shark and two Rainbows (four Glow Light Tetras were and are unaffected). I then decided to treat the tank with Kick Ich. The Shark died over the past weekend, likely from the treatment. None of the fish have experienced a loss of appetite. The number of spots is down, but not entirely gone. I am still treating the tank. Do you think this was the correct treatment?

On another note, the fish in the tank were acting strangely during this whole episode. At one time, I saw the Shark lay on its side at the bottom of the tank while the Glow Lights appeared to pick at its skin, like salt water cleaner wrasses. The Shark would also run along the sides of the Rainbows with his mouth, like he was eating their slime coats. Is this behavior normal? Have you ever heard of such behaviors?

One last thing, about six days into quarentine, I noticed a clear nodule on my Angel's lip. The nodule was not an air bubble. The nodule looked like a clear glass bead about 1 millimeter in diameter. Later, I saw several of these nodules on a slime trail that was hanging from the Angels anus. Any ideas what these are? Just mucus or perhaps an egg of some animal/parasite.

Sounds like the fish had whitespot a parasite infection, they do peck at one another when they have some type of parasite on them this is normal behavour, the clear beaded stuff was it a girl as thats how fish abort.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to your reply. The tank cleared after I treated it with Kick Ick. Is white spot the same as Ick?

Interestingly, after I moved the fish out of quarentine I did a water change and cleaned the gravel. A lot of tiny white worms then began swirling around the tank. Planeria? The worms were around 2-4 millimeter in length and the diameter of a hair. I am wondering if the nodules I saw on my angel wire worm eggs. The quarentine tank is new and so is the worm infestation.

I don't remember how to sex angels, so I can't address the angel egg question. How do you sex them?

Thanks for the response.

white spot and ick are the same.

As to the planaria question, were you possibly overfeeding? If so then it is possible they were planaria. If you are sure you were not overfeeding, then I guess they could be parasites. Without a picture I can't tell you one way or another.

I don't do angels, so can't tell you how to sex them. But I'm sure someone will be along who can tell you sooner or later.

I may have over fed. I am being extremely careful with feeding now. Pictures are not a possibility, the worms are sooo tiny. I recently added a rainbow to the quarentine tank for treatment of popeye with Tetracycline. Not working by the way, any other suggestions? After being in the tank for two days I notice the nodules again on a slime trail attached to eye area of the rainbow, not the eye with popeye. After watching the rainbow for a minute, I saw it suck the nodules into his mouth and eat a couple. Then he spit a couple out and they were still attached by a slime trail to his eye. Bizzare. No nodules are now visible in the tank. I heard that rainbows love to eat planaria. Do you think he was snacking on planaria eggs deposited in the gravel of the tank?
