i broke the 1st cardanal rule of fish keeping and i know i deserve what i get for it ....... but these guys were gorgious and i couldn't resist.
i bought and brought home 2 sick panda oranda, they had just arrived at the wholesaler from china on thur, were then packed and brought to the lfs on fri where they were only unpacked for 30min before being re-packed for me to bring home.
i know how wrong this was of me :(
but they are now my responsability and i have to do what is best for them.

i'm guessing whatever is wrong with them is due to stress and poor water conditions on the journey, i have started them on a treatment for ich as i did see white spots on some of them in the shop but their main obvious symptom seems to be listing to one side.
any ideas what this could be a sign of and how do i treat it?
they do look a lot better today than they did yesterday but the listing is persisting which worries me. please help for the goldies sake if nothing else?

How big is the tank, does it have a cycled filter on it and what are your water stats?

unfortunately i didn't want to put them in my goldie tank till i was sure they didn't have anything that would infect my original guys so they are only in a 24x12x12. they will be transfered to the 54x18x24 once i'm sure they are not contagious.
i used the media from my big tank for the filter so iwould say yes to the cycled filter.
0 ammonia, 0nitrite, 5nitrate.

i've kept an eye out for the past 2 days and can't see any white looking grains on them so think i might have escaped the ich but one of the ones in the shop had them right inside its gills which were open and red but these guys dont seem to have that.

they are looking a lot more lively today but still have the list, not gave them a close up inspection yet today to check for anything else.

there is absolutely no sign of white spot or fungus (that i can see) on these wee guys and they are looking really quite perky at the mo. still listing but moving about quite well.
think i'll leave them where they are for tonight but should i bite the bullet tomorrow and transfer them to the big tank???

i would quarantine them for at least a week, preferably two; just keep an eye on your water stats and be prepared to do plenty of big water changes, if necessary :good:

thanks fluttermoth :)
yeah i thought mayby a week or two but altho it is only short term emergency and they are wee enough to be ok in there i still don't like it. want to get them over to the big tank asap but gota weigh the pros and cons. if they keep improving and don't show any other signs i might chance it after the week.
i'm doing 20% daily water changes, just to be on the (possibly over) cautious side and with a tank that wee even a big water change isn't a big job.
have i mentioned these guys are GORGIOUS! lol
thanks for your help and advice :)

Yes, I can understand that you're not happy keeping them in such a small tank, but they'll be fine in there for a couple of weeks; especially if you're doing that many water changes
