Hi, i got my first betta 3 days ago and he has been just fine until this morning. He has ragged fins and there is nothing in the tank that is likely to have attacked him (I currently have neon tetras, cory cats, and a bristlenose plec-the rest of my fish were sent to an early grave by a very aggressive golden gourami who has now gone back to my lfs) so i can only assume its fin rot. What is the best way to treat him? I was windering if i should put him into quarantine tank (though i have no filter with it) and treat him with a shop bought medicine?any advice? thanks

i had a problem with my bristlenose and betta. at night when the betta was asleep the bristlenose would eat his fins. i would seperate him to his own tank and just keep an eye on the water quality and salt to 1% to stop any secondary infection from taking hold. add 1 level teaspoon per gallon and see how you go with that, but remember to re-add any salt that you take out with water changes.
if the fins are still being eaten away then he could have finrot or he is damaging his own tail.

Neons are guilty for fin nipping also as I have seen them do this to my betta with my own two eyes. I think I had a demon for a neon it was a monster.
