Hi one of my albino corys is not looking good, they are have been sat in the same spot for about a day now, and I've got home from work today and its got loads of strange red marks over it.

Water paramaters are

Nitrites - 0
Ammonia - 0
Nitrate - 5ppm

I've attached a picture has anyone any idea what this is, Ive tried searching but cant seem to find anything similar.

Thanks for your help

How big is the tank and is it cycled?

It's either ammonia burns or septicimia. The latter is very deadly.

180 litres, fully cycled been set up for 11 months.

Tank is well maintained and I do 40-50% water changes every week.

If Septicimia what can I do?

Septicemia.
Hard to cure once it progresses.

Can you isolate the sick cory for treatment.

Septicemia

Symptoms:

Fish may have reddening at fin bases, blood streaks throughout the fins and body, small hemorrhages around the eyes. Dull listless behavior and lack of appetite may also be present.

Cause:

Systemic bacterial infection caused by various bacteria, including Aeromonas, Pseudomonas and Vibrio. The illness is often brought on by poor water quality or as a result of parasitic infestations or other infections. These bacteria enter the blood stream and circulate through the tissues causing inflammation and damage. Inflamed blood vessels in the skin and at fin bases stand out. Blood vessel and heart tissue damage cause hemorrhaging and consequently leakage of body fluids into the abdomen, which may lead to Dropsy.

Treatment:

Water conditions must be improved for all fish in the tank, regardless of how many fish are infected. Check your waters Treat with Kanacyn or Tetracycline as well as with a medicated food if the fish will eat. If parasites are suspected, all the fish in the tank should be treated with antiparasitic medication. Using salt to help restore osmotic balance might be helpful.

Poor thing. It could be injured too. There was a topic here recently with a similar problem, it turned out the owner dropped something over the cory accidentally while changing the water and remembered later. I think it recovered but yours is looking very pale.

Try KanaPlex by Seachem. It'll cure the fish, but also stimulate appatite :good:

No, aquarium salt will burn the cories. Try StressCoat+. It's a dechlorinator with aloe vera which soothes wounds, calms fish, and promotes healing.

After buying KanaPlaex, buy some AmmoniaSafe by Tetra. The antibiotics will wipe out your filter bacteria, so this will come in handy.

The problem with using antibiotics in the main tank is that it will wipe the good bacteria out in your filter. The tank will have to cycle again. Putting the whole tank at risk.
Also is best to isolate sick fish which are showing symptoms of septicemia. Due to leaking of fluids into the tank water.

Oh no, I cant isolate the fish as only have the one tank.

Is it septicaemia contagious? If its likely that the other fish have it too, then I guess I will have to use the antibiotics anyway and then hope they all survive the tank recycling!

This is awful!!

Septicemia can gain entry throw cuts and wounds.
I had a cory with septicemia the other fish were fine. Sadly I lost the fish to septicemia, as couldn't get excess to antibiotics.

Corys are very prone to bacterial infections. This is why it so important to keep on top of tank maintenance.

Have the barbels on the cory gone short, thin?

Yeah its barbels on one side seem to be about half gone.

All the others do seem ok, and certainly don't have any red marks or missing barbels.

Thanks for your advice and help everyone, you have all been great.

Cheers Steve

Once they start to lose there barbels is not a good sign either.

Do you mind keeping us all updated on his progress. I love corys.

Good Luck.
