Shrimp school

When you say a school, do you mean a group of fish that all swim together? The majority of freshwater fish don't do that, they behave like a group of male endlers.
I would prefer schooling. Iā€™ve had gold barbs and neons that weā€™re pretty close knit swimmers, but neons arenā€™t great for harder water and gold barbs just arenā€™t real mid tank swimmers in my experience
 
Most fish only swim closely together when they are stressed. I've had neons in the past and they were all over the tank on their own rather than in a group.

My gold barbs were by themselves in a 55 for years. I donā€™t think they were stressed. I know some stick together for other reasons like group breeding. X-ray tetras seem nice, but no one seems to have much experience with them.
