Hi guys, can someone help sex these gouramis!
I was told the blue/orange is a male and the two smaller blue ones are female but recently starting to doubt that after seeing things about the shape of their fins. Iā€™m begging to think the larger ā€œfemaleā€ may actually be a male. The larger orange one definitely chases around the ā€œfemalesā€ but not overly to the point of stress which makes me think maybe they are both female. They all seem to live pretty harmoniously.

I have attached pictures of the ā€œmaleā€, the two ā€œfemalesā€ separately & the two ā€œfemalesā€ together!
Thanks!

The male dwarf guramis are More red and have large, reddish stripes on their sides. The females are also a bit larger with more aqua stripes.

For example that is most likely a female. But, I have no experience with gourami so I only know what I can find online.

Iā€™m fairly sure that one is a male. Just an unclear, picture, heā€™s a better one

I think both of those are females because of the rounded dorsal fins and colouration.

Thatā€™s strange, how come it is much larger and bolder, brighter colours? It has always chased the other 2 small blue ones and I was told he was the male šŸ˜¬

The females are usually more bland and less red. The females are larger. That orange one is a male but I believe that the rest are females. idk but I think that is the case

In post #4. The fish on the right is Male, the fish on the left is Female. Please put some floating plants in your tank.

I will get some better pictures today as my camera quality is awful and probably making this difficult! I was told that the males are much bigger and have orange stripes where as they females are smaller and plain blue, seems like I was misinformed šŸ˜¬ the big blue/orange one definitely exhibits some ā€œchasingā€ behaviour to the other 2 small blue ones which is what made me think they are the 2 female and he is the male! Iā€™ll get some better pics up today
Thanks guys

Female dwarfs are usually either plain silver or sometimes with a hint of stripes. But some people have reported buying more highly coloured females recently, though these are not common.

Pictures like this are certainly making things confusing šŸ˜šŸ˜

I would have said the one that photo calls female is actually a male. But it could be a photo from a breeder who has bred the more colourful females.

If you bought yours from somewhere like Pets at Home or Maidenhead Aquatics, they would probably be the traditional pale females.

I once had a P@H worker try to tell me that a powder blue male was a 'wild' coloured female!

That picture shows a male Dwarf Gourami on the right and an Indian Gourami on the left. Thatā€™s why itā€™s confusing.

@Oli, Your first picture is a male Dwarf Gourami. Females of the natural form do not have red and blue stripes. Your 2nd picture is a female that looks to be in a bad way. Your last picture shows a male and female.
