Hi I am new to tropical fish and got rather unlucky with glodfish so i am determined to do it with a bit more care this time.

So far I have done...
Day 1. I brought a 35 Lin tank, washed 3mm gravel and added it along with some ornaments, added the water
Day 2. I then added the heater and filter and after a few hours the conditioner and some bacteria.
day 3. added 3 small plants + plant supliment.
Day 7. Added in 3 x cardinal tetra and 3 x neon tetra.

I plan to ....
Day 13. Clean gravel and partial water change, add in more bacteria and conditioner
Day 14. Get 2 x cherry barb
Day 20. Clean gravel and partial water change, add in more bacteria and conditioner + plant supplement
Day 21. Get 2 x guppies
Day 27. Clean gravel and partial water change, add in more bacteria and conditioner
Day 28. Get 2 x Corys

I will then swap to adding bacteria once a month and cleaning every two weeks.

With this cleaning and bacteria adding and adding fish each week.... will this be ok? Im hoping together the fish and the bacteria will cycle the tank ok?

Thanks,

Adriia

its a lot better to cycle the tank fishless my 50 gallon only took 10 days to mature there are loads of threads which tell you how to and you will have more success ime :hey:

The bacteria won't do anything for your media, it's baiscally useless.

As you have fish in your tank you are now doing a fish in cycle, you'll need to be doing water changes on a daily basis to keep all toxins as close to zero as possible. You might even need to do 2 -3 25% - 40% changes per day.

You'll also need to buy yourself a good liquid test kit - i'd reccomend the API freshwater kit.

Check your stats on a daily basis, just before you do a water change and about an hour after you do a water change, if the second test is showing any toxins then do another water change and re-check after another hour.

It's a long haul doing a fish in cycle and can be hard work, it would be better to do a fishless cycle.

Hi and welcome!

Before you do anything, particularly get any new fish (!) is to read all the articles in the following for beginners: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=277264
Particularly fish-in cycling: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=224306

Also, the kind of fish you have mentioned is a bit unsuitable for your 35 litre tank... For a better selection of fish for your tank, have a look here: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=116208

However, as it seems like you already have a cardinal and neon tetra. Please be aware that these fish aren't that hardy and they might suffer while your tank is being cycled and matured. But fingers crossed and you'll be okay provided you keep a close eye on the water parameters.

Good luck and hope things go well!
