So I'd like to start an Angelfish tank (possibly blackwater) and I'm looking for some input into the setup that I am planning. First the tank is a 30 gallon tank with the dimensions 30.2 in W x 12 in D x 18.7 in H. It will be a planted tank and im looking to put in some Java Fern, Amazon Sword, Green Cabomba, and Anubias nana. Also I'm currently looking for suggestions for a good foreground plant which i can use to carpet that has similar light requirements. Finally the fish I would like to house are the following:
  • 2-4 Angelfish
  • 5 Black Tetra
  • 2-3 Corycatfish
  • 1 Bulldog Catfish
Will I have enough room for these once they hit a more mature status? Also how is the compatibility of these fish? I think they are a good fit overall but I'd be happy to hear any input.

Thank in advance

For a start, 30g or 130 litres isn't enough for 4. At first yes it will be fine but at about 6ish months of age (they grow very fast too) they hit sexual maturity and start tearing chunks out of each other. That's how many including myself find breeding pairs - I had six, waited for a pair to form and quickly rehomed the other four. I would normally advise for ultimate stocking, a breeding pair or one. Can get a little heated between two that aren't paired also. But saying that it could go swimmingly! Do remember they are Cichlids :p 130L I would only be looking at one full grown Angel in there anyway. They do get very large, about six inches plus and that's not including fins and the height they can attain!
