serpae tetra

i recently purchased some serpae tetras from a garden centre. a friend of mine told me that these tetras are not community fish. i thought they were community fish and bought them thinking they were. the guy at the garden centre says they are, does anyone know if they are or not. thanks

I have mine with gourami and catfish and some rams... never had any problems. They were also with some killifish for awhile.

They are fin nippers but they are still community fish.

As far as I know all tetras can go in a community.

I have three of them in my 25 gallon community with silvertip tetras, a betta, clown loaches, zebra danios, and cories, and I have no problem with them. They do have a reputation as being fin nippers but then so again do zebra danios. I don't think I've ever seen them nip at anything in my tank...they chase each other around, but thats about it.
